The pharmaceutical industry?s supply chain is full of opportunities for mistakes like drug abuse, spurious, false labeling, counterfeit and more. The extents of the drug abuse and recalls due to counterfeiting or false labeling have been increasing in recent times. The use of such drugs can result in failure of treatment or even death in some cases. In addition, it was observed that the disposals of the unwanted and expired drugs in the garbage or flushing down the toilet have adverse effect on the environment. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) along with other authorities are framing the new laws and regulations to protect the environment and to control the use of prescription drugs for non-medical purposes.
