Abstract:

The prevailing EU sugar quota is due to be removed from October 2017, which may lead to an increase in the production of sugar as well as isoglucose, a type of sweetener that can be used in place of sugar.

Isoglucose industry is not expected to witness sudden changes even though the cost of production is lower than that of sugar.  On the contrary, the increase in production of isoglucose depends upon future investment opportunities and food and beverage industry’s acceptability of sugar substitutes.

Also, it will take a while for isoglucose to increase its share in the total sweetener market due to relatively limited opportunities to replace sugar in the food industry.
