European Union has made it mandatory to use euro emission class trucks to reduce all the harmful particles to the environment and to be more sustainable in near future. This article talks about the possibility of increase in freight rates for shippers by the emergence of Euro VI trucks by 2014. European Union has introduced regulations in 2005 to reduce carbon emission and other harmful particle emission into the environment to make road transportation greener in the future. The regulations for Euro IV heavy duty emission was applied to newly registered vehicles since1/10/2006 and was replaced by Euro V regulation which was introduced to new vehicles registered since 1/10/2009. The major difference between the Euro IV and Euro V is the decrease in the emission limits for nitrogen oxides from 3.5 to 2.0 g/kWh. Author: Shijith Ajith Kumar
