Japan earthquake disrupts production A magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck Kyushu Island on April 16, following a 6.2 quake two days earlier, disrupting normal routine and industrial activity in South Japan.

Toyota Motor Corp Halted production at three plants producing vehicles, engines and trans axles in Fukuoka
Sony Corp Factory producing image sensors for smartphone makers will remain closed. One of its major customers is Apple, which uses the sensors in its iPhones.
Renesas Electronics Corp Shut down its Kumamoto plant, which produces microcontroller chips for automobiles
Mitsubishi Electric Corp Halted production at its two Kumamoto plants which produce liquid crystal display modules
Honda Motor Co Ltd Halted production at its Kumamoto motorcycle plant
Nissan Motor Co Ltd Halted production at its Fukuoka plant
Aisin Seiki Co Halted production at two plants in Kumamoto that make engine parts
JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp suspended oil shipments at its refinery in Oita Prefecture
Panasonic Corp Operations were partially restored at a plant in the town of Nagomi in Kumamoto Prefecture
