The world is becoming more and more aware of harmful effects of tobacco consumption; thanks to various anti-smoking organisation and various government initiatives. However, we have at least 2 billion people tobacco consuming population out of 7 billion people in the world. This makes tobacco the most revenue generating cash crop. Yes, it is mainly nicotine that has to be blamed along with other drivers of the mammoth industry such as: revenue for poor farmers in third world countries, the major well established players in the tobacco market who have been around for more than a century and the fact that it contributes to significant revenue generation of various governments around the globe. However, there is a need to get rid of this epidemic which kills about 5 million people worldwide each year more than any other deadly disease. Nicotine has been consumed by humans for over 2 millenniums. Earlier, it was very popular only amongst the Native Americans and it was introduced to the rest of the world 5 centuries ago. Tobacco as a commercial product first arrived in the Ottoman Empire in the late 16th century. The form and the way of consumption has changed over the years starting with rolling in leaves or direct chewing to todayï¾Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Æ’??s cigarettes that can consists of tobacco plus 599?? other additives approved by FDA which release more than 4000 different chemicals when smoked. Out of those at least 16 are known to be carcinogens. Assuming that nicotine is what people consume tobacco for (which is a fair enough assumption as people who are chain smokers smoke due to addiction towards nicotine); we have a lead towards finding a solution to this threat. Nicotine has become an indispensable part of human race and getting rid of this drug completely seems far beyond possible. So first the option to be sort for is a safer delivery of nicotine as compared to smoking cigarettes.
