The outsourcing penetration of central or core lab services is 100%. The pharma companies while contracting with these service providers acquire less visibility about which component of the service lines mentioned in the budget structure contributes to project management costs. With the necessity of efficient project management to manage the R&D outsourcing spend of the pharma, it is also imperative to identify and contain the project management costs in the total contract. The entire project services has been outsourced by the big pharma to the contract research organizations including the project management which contributes to around 18-20 % of the overall core or central lab services budget. The multiple services components involved in the workflow of these services make it difficult to demarcate where exactly the project management?s role is inevitable. Starting from site set up or evaluation, co-ordination of sites and teams, site and data query resolution, custom clearance in case of equipment transport, ensuring the regulatory compliance of the study sites till the study close-out has been handled and managed effectively by the project manager.
